Our language is shared by Anishinaabe peoples across much of Canada, from Ontario to Manitoba, and US border states from Michigan to Montana, reflecting the vast territories we once occupied.
Our language is endangered due to colonial prohibitions on teaching and learning Anishinaabemowin.
Restoring Anishinaabemowin as the common everyday of our language will require a sustained effort of teaching, using, and immersing our people in their language in everyday life and in the tools, materials, and platforms they use to communicate with each other and with Anishinaabe relatives in other Nations.
