Anishinabemowin - Our Sacred Language

It is said that the the spirit of a people is carried on the wings of their language. Colonization led to a gradual decline in our language. This decline has been caused by active and passive action by colonial governments to assimilate and in many cases, actively stop the use of the many languages of the people of Turtle Island.

OUR LANGUAGE GOALS: We are restoring programs to promote the use of Anisinabemowin in the daily life of our Nation. Our goal is to make Anishinabemowin the first language in homes and in our community.
